Obituary for Wolfgang A. Fuchs

Wolfgang Adam Fuchs was born in Munich, Germany in 1933 and passed away peacefully December 9th in the presence of his wife and daughter. He immigrated to the United States when he was 20 with his mother, father, and brother. Shortly after arriving in the United States, he was drafted into the US Army, and through some luck and skill, he became an Army Press photographer. Before he left for his tour of duty, he met and married the beautiful Ilse Meyer. Together, they raised their three children, moved out of the city to Long Island where he became an entrepreneur and built a well-respected painting, decorating, and paper hanging company. He not only built his own business, but as a member and officer of the Painting and Decorating Contractors Association, he assisted others in his field to succeed. As a dad, he taught all his children his trade, the importance of education, and of setting and achieving goals.

Wolfgang loved to travel and would take his family on annual camping vacations across the United States no matter how much or how little money he had. He loved the back roads, side attractions, and the history of the United States. He and his wife also had the opportunity to travel the world and most especially travel to Alaska, a dream trip he often spoke about. Together, they traveled several times back to Germany and to his beloved Munich and Bavaria. He loved his polka music, and on his last day, he was moving his feet to those familiar tunes.

His family meant the world to him, and he was happiest when his children and grandchildren gathered together to celebrate his birthday, and his recent 85th was a joyous celebration!

Wolfgang’s family, his wife Ilse of 61 years, his son Wolfram and wife Linda, his son Gary and wife Marybeth, and his daughter Heidi Jakoby and her husband Michael look forward to continuing to celebrate his life along with his grandchildren Nathan, Drew his wife Chelsea, Paul, and Annalise Fuchs. Additionally, his brother Arthur and wife Trodel Fuchs and his sister-in-law Erna Marks will fondly remember all the adventures they had together.

May his resiliency, strength, determination, and smile continue to inspire us all!
